I played my second team yankee game today, this time versus west germans. The game was fun but a total desaster. We played 40 points to test out some new unit types.

My latest comission work is this human Blood Bowl team. These are the new Games Workshop plastic miniatures. I like the dynamic poses of these guys but the overal design is not my kind of taste. Notheless I painted the team for a friend of myne and really enjoyed working on these minis.
I´m quiet busy doing several projects at the moment but I managed to finish more of my Shaltari vehicles for Dropzone Commander. This time I´ve painted a pair of Yari light skimmer, two Heaven terragates and two Spirit light gates.
Well it happened again. I came across a new tabletop system and got dragged in. This time I started a Dropzone Commander Shaltari army. The game is from Hawk Wargames and shares the same universe as Dropfleet Commander. The Shaltari are the most developed alien race in the universe. The design of the vehicles is brilliant and really stands out on the battlefield. Compared to Warhammer 40k they are like a mixture between the Tau and Eldar.
UCMS Midway, Seattle class fleet carrier
The last cruiser for my UCM starter fleet went of the shipyard today. One of my favorite UCM cruisers, a Seattle class fleet carrier. The UCMS Midway will now form my line battlegroup giving me 3 battlegroups in total. Fleet carriers came with the nice ability to launch fleet assets to attack enemy or defend friendly ships. With a launch capacity of 3 this means the Seattle can launch 3 Squadrons (tokens) of fighter and/or bombers. Bombers are anti ship strike crafts which form up in groups and make an attack against the target which get more lethal in numbers. Fighters could be used in two different ways. They can either give friendly ships a bonus on their point defence value (a +3 per fighter token!) or they can cancel enemy fighter tokens by “occupying” them in a dogfight. Besides that the Seattle is armed with two mass driver turrets for anti ship attacks.
a UCM vanguard battlegroup
The second group I painted for my UCM starter fleet is a vanguard battlegroup. These groups can contain heavy tonnage ships and in my case that’s a Moscow heavy cruiser. To get the boots on the ground, to hold some objectives, there are two New Orleans frigates flying with her.
a pathfinder battlegroup ready for some action
Usually I’m not that big into spaceship wargames. That’s because most of them only feature a straight up fight in the void. Dropfleet Commander on the other hand builds up conflicts and battles about conquest or reconquest of strategical objectives on planets (or space stations around them). That gives the game a really interesting playstyle in which you have to attack the enemy fleet and simultaneously drop your ground units via strike carriers to get boots on the ground. This and the gorgeous miniatures produced by Hawk Wargames finally lead me to buy a 2 player starter box.
